PP Board vs PVC Board | Differences in Temperature & Chemical Resistance

Temperature Resistance, Chemical Tolerance and Application Differences Between PP and PVC Plastic Sh

Core Performance Differences Between PP Board and PVC Board

1. Heat Resistance Performance

Heat resistance is one of the most obvious distinctions between PP and PVC boards. PP boards feature excellent high-temperature stability, supporting long-term stable working performance at a temperature of around 100°C. It will not deform, soften or degrade under continuous high-temperature working conditions, making it suitable for high-temperature industrial production environments.
In contrast, PVC boards have poor heat resistance. The maximum sustainable working temperature of standard PVC boards does not exceed 60°C. When exposed to higher temperatures, PVC materials will gradually soften, deform, and even release harmful substances, which greatly limits its application in high-temperature industrial scenarios.

2. Chemical Resistance Capacity

For industrial projects involving acid, alkali and oxidizing substances, material chemical tolerance is crucial. PP boards have a broader acid and alkali resistance range and outstanding oxidation resistance. They can withstand the erosion of most conventional corrosive liquids and oxidizing chemicals, maintaining stable performance in harsh chemical workshops and wastewater treatment environments.
PVC boards only have stable resistance to conventional weak acid and weak alkali environments. Their tolerance to strong corrosive substances and oxidizing materials is limited, so they are not suitable for long-term use in high-corrosion industrial scenarios, only for conventional non-corrosive working environments.

3. Low-Temperature Toughness Performance

Despite superior high-temperature and chemical resistance, PP boards have an obvious disadvantage in low-temperature environments. PP materials become brittle at low temperatures, with reduced toughness and impact resistance, and are prone to cracking under external force. On the contrary, PVC boards maintain excellent low-temperature toughness and structural stability in cold environments, making them more reliable for low-temperature outdoor and industrial applications.

Applicable Industrial Scenarios

PP Board Application Scenarios

Relying on high heat resistance and strong chemical stability, PP boards are mainly used in industrial anti-corrosion and high-temperature working scenarios, including chemical storage tanks, wastewater treatment equipment, industrial anti-corrosion structural parts, and high-temperature processing workshop partitions.

PVC Board Application Scenarios

Benefiting from good low-temperature toughness and cost performance, PVC boards are widely used in normal temperature and low-temperature scenarios, such as outdoor decorative panels, advertising display boards, general packaging materials, and low-temperature equipment protective structures.

How to Choose Between PP Board and PVC Board

The core selection standard depends on the actual working environment. Choose PP boards for projects with high temperature, strong acid and alkali, and oxidizing substance exposure. Choose PVC boards for conventional normal temperature, low-temperature environments and general decorative protection projects.
